Issa Hayatou is the acting
President of the International Federation of Football Association, FIFA,
following the suspension of Sepp Blatter, the organisation has said.
FIFA on Thursday said
Joseph Sepp Blatter has been suspended from all football activities and
banned from a period of 90 days alongside UEFA President Michel Platini
following approval by its adjudicatory chamber of a recommendation made by the
ethics committee.
The sanctions could be
extended up to 45 days which would put an end to Blatter's reign as FIFA
President.
Blatter is accused of making a disloyal payment to Michel Platini in 2011. He is also investigated in relation to allegations of wrong doings in a contract signed in 2005 with the Carribean Football Union- markets expert claim this deal handed TV rights of the World Cup for a fraction of their market value.
Hayatous is now acting Fifa President |
A FIFA staement read: '' Today, in accordance with Fifa's code of Ethis, Joseph S. Blatter was relieved of all duties as Fifa President following the decision of the Independent Chairman of the Adjudicatory Chamber of the Ethics Committee to provisionally ban him from all football activities on a national and international level.
''Joseph S. Blatter, for the duration of the 90-day ban, is not allowed to represent Fifa in any capacity, act on the organisation's behalf, or communicate to media or other stakeholders as a Fifa representative.
''As mandated by article 32(6) of the Fifa Statutes, Issa Hayatou, as the longest-serving vice-President on Fifa's executive Committee will serve as Acting President of Fifa.''
Taking over from Blatter: Hayatou has equally been investigated in the past |
Hayatou who has been President of the Confederation of African Football since 1988 was in 2011 accused of receiving bribes to back Qater's 2022 World Cup bid though he was later cleared by an Independent Investigation committee.
