Goal droughts continue for Eto'o, Abubakar as Kweuke moves top

Leonard Kweuke scored his sixth goal at the weekend to move joint top of the goal scoring charts in Turkey as Eto'o and Abubakar are after their first goals in close to three weeks. A comprehensive round up of the performances of Cameroonians in the diaspora.

We begin this week in Turkey where Stephane Mbia was left out of the match day squad for Trabzonspor as they slipped to their third straight defeat, this time 1-2 at home against Konyaspor. They have won just one of their last five matches.


Achille Webo was equally left out for Omanilispor as they lost 2-1 away at Gaziantepspor.

Aurelien Chedjou made his first start for Galatasaray since returning from injury as they defeated Istanbul Basaksehir 2-0 nil to move within two points of leaders Besiktas.

Leonard Kweuke grabbed an assist and scored a penalty in the sixth minute of extra time but Rizespor slipped to a 2-3 home defeat against Dany Nounkeu’s Bursaspor. Kweuke moved joint top of the goal scoring chart in Turkey with six goals while Charles Itandje was in goal for Rizespor as he conceded three goals for the first time this season. The club have registered just one win in their last five games.  On the other hand, Dany Nounkeu made his second consecutive start for Bursaspor since joining the club in August.

Jean II Makoun made his first start since joining Antalyaspor as they played out a goalless draw against Kasimpasa. Samuel Eto’o once again struggled in front of goal as he was booked in the dying minutes of the game. He has not scored since netting in a two nil win against Eskisehirspor on September 12.

Landry Nguemo was a second half substitute for Akhisar Belediyespor as they came from two down to force a 2-2 draw against Fenerbache. Trailing two nil at half time, Akhisar’s coach Cihat Arlsan deciding to bring on Nguemo who gave stability to side’s midfield as they pushed on to pull a remarkable comeback. The Cameroonian has certainly made a case to start the next game.

Belgium

Sebstian Siani bossed the midfield for KV Ostende as they defeated Lokeren 2-0 to stay top of the Jupiler Pro League. The midfielder who joins the Indomitable Lions setup for the first time has been a key member of his side’s success this season starting all ten league games so far. On the other hand, midfielder Evariste Ngolok made his seventh start of the season for Lokeren but could not prevent a third straight defeat as they continue to battle against relegation.

In Finland,

Thierry Nguekam and SJK defeated Ilves 2-1 to move top of the table. The 26-year old Cameroonian striker played the full game and ws instrumental in the build up to his team’s second goal.

Eric Matoukou and Inter Turku slipped to a 3-1 defeat away at Lahti. The 33-year old former Indomitable Lions defender was beaten for pace in the third goal his team conceded. He was subbed off with a quarter of an hour left to play.

Jean Nganbe Nganbe made his debut ROPS in a ten minutes cameo as they lost one nil away to Mariehamn.

Greece

Olivier Boumale was at the double for Panionios as they travelled away to thrash Panaitolikos 5-1. The 26-year old Cameroonian striker doubled his side’s advantage as early as the tenth minute of the game three minutes after Villabal opened scoring for the visitors.  He assisted Bakasetas five minutes later for his side’s third goal before grabbing the fourth just before the half hour mark. Boumale crowned his man-of the match performance with another assist for Ansarifard who rounded up the scoring seven minutes from time.

Bulgaria,

Petrus Boumal and Lovech took a blow to their title challenge after slipping to a 1-2 defeat at home against Levski Sofia who moved top of the table. The 22-year old midfielder was withdrawn in the second half after an ineffective 45 minutes.

Serbia,

Michel Vaillant was off the bench for his second appearance of the season for Mladost Lucani in their goalless home draw against Radnik Surdulica. They have won just one of their last five matches.

MLS,

Eric Ayuk Mbu played just over an hour for Philadelphia Union as they slipped to a 3-1 defeat away at Toronto in the Eastern Conference. The 18-year old Cameroonian has started almost half of his side’s 32 matches this season as they languish in the bottom half of the Eastern Conference.

Still in the Eastern Conference, Toni Tchani played all 90 mins for Columbus Crew as they lost 3-1 away against New York Red Bulls. Tchani and his team mates now face a huge task in their bid to qualify for the play-offs after dropping from the Top Two.

Ambroise Oyongo Bitolo lined up at right back for Montreal Impact as they lost 2-1 away to Orlando City. The 24-year old defender has made 19 appearances so far this season as they lie sixth in the Eastern Conference.

Qatar,

Raoul Loe lined up for A Saliya as they suffered a 1-2 home defeat to Lekhwiya as they continue to struggle in the second half of the table.

Romania,

Fai Collins was the only debutant amongst the contingent of Cameroonians at Dinamo Bucarest as they slipped to a shock one nil home defeat to leaders Astra. Fai Collins who has been called up to the national team for the first time was ever present at right back s Antonio Ghomsi and Marcel Essombe’s second half introduction could not help restore parity for Dinamo. Patrice Feussi could only watch from the bench throughout the game as Dinamo have now slipped six points from the top spot.

Steve Beleck scored his second goal of the season for CFR Cluj but they slipped to a 1-2 home defeat against CS U Craiova.  The 22-year old striker opened scores just two minutes after the break but his side collapsed to two late goals in the final quarter of the game as CFRR Cluj remain in mid table.

Switzerland,

Edgard Salli made his first start of the season for Saint Gallen as they were held to a 1-1 draw by FC Sion. The forward was withdrawn with four minutes left on the clock.

Franck Etoundi played 90 minutes for FC Zurich as they pulled a 2-2 draw at home against FC Basel. The younger brother of Stephane Mbia has scored two league goals in eight appearances this season.

England,

Clinton Njie was once again a second half substitute for Tottenham Hotspurs as they pulled a 2-2 draw away at Swansea City. The winger replaced Nacer Chadli for the last 25 minutes of the game as he is still waiting for his first league start.

Allan Nyom was subbed off for as Watford pulled a 1-1 draw against AFC Bournemouth. The 27-year old right back was withdrawn after a slight knock on his right leg.

Sebastien Bassong was at centre half for Norwich as they slipped to a 2-1 home defeat against Leicester City.

Germany, 

It was a day to forget for Joel Matip at the heart of Schalke O4’s back as they were roundly beaten three nil at home by FC Cologne. The defender won eight tackles in the entire game but could not shut out the back line as the lost more ground on Bayern and Dortmund who lead the way respectively. Choupo Moting’s second half introduction could not help as he registered just one shot on goal.

Marvin Matip was a stalwart at the back for Ingolstadt as the newly team continue to surprise the Bundesliga- this time a two-nil victory against Eintracht Frankfurt.

France,

Henri Bienvenu Ntsama was an unused substitute for Troyes as they slipped to a one nil defeat at home against Guingamp.

Striker Jacques Zoua and Goalkeeper Jules Goda were all benched for GFC Ajaccio as they pulled a 2-2 draw at home against Toulouse who had Jean Armel Kana Biyik at centre half.

Benjamin Moukandjo was on target for Lorient as they defeated Bordeaux by the odd goal in a five-goal thriller. The winger scored his fourth goal of the season just after the break to cancel out Diego Rolan’s opener before two quick-fire goals from Abdul Majeed Warris and Zargo Toure sealed the victory despite a late goal from Boredeux.

Benoit Assou Ekotto returned for Saint Etienne after sitting ou on the sidelines for a month due to a leg injury but he was only fit enough for the bench as Saint Etienne lost one nil away to Caen.

Nicolas Nkoulou was the only Cameroonian who lined up for Marseille as they lost 2-1 against Paris SG in the classic.

Ligue 2,

Guy Roland Ndy Assembe was in goal for Nancy as they cruised through to a-three nil victory over Ajaccio as they moved to within five points of leaders Dijon.

Eugene Ekobo lined up at left back for Clermont as they defeated Bourg-en-Bresse three goals to two to close the gap on the top three to just one point.

Christian Bekamenga led the line for RC Lens as they lost 2-1 away at Evian TG. The 29-year old striker has scored just one league goal since the start of the season.

Alex Teikeu was at right back for Sochaux s they edged Valenciennes one nil but remain third from bottom.

Defender Frederick Bong and Forward Dona N’doh started for Niort in their goalless draw away against Le Havre. Midfielder Daouda Bassock was introduced in the second half. Meanwhile Modeste Mbami was an unused substitute for Le Havre after joining the club weeks ago on a free transfer.

Jerome Guihota was once again benched for Nimes in their 1-1 draw against Red Star while Georges Mandjeck made his second start for FC Metz in their 1-1 draw against Brest.

Spain,

Idris Carlos Kameni was once again impeccable in goal for Malaga as they defeated Real Sociedad 3-1 to ease their relegation struggles.

Segunda

Achille Emana was substituted after 55 minutes for Gimnastic Tarragone as they lost two nil at home against Alcoron.

Lionel Enguene Onana and Jean Marie Dongou Tsafack lined up for Barcelona B in their goalless draw against Levante B. Fabrice Ondoua was once again benched for this game.

In Portugal, Vincent Abubabar was withdrawn after 62 minutes for FC Porto as they thrashed Belenenses. The striker is still after his first goal for the past three weeks.

In Italy, Joseph Marie Minala was once again benched for Latina as they lost 2-1 at home to Bari.

We end in Tunisia where Franck Kom returned from injury at the weekend to inspire Etoile du Sahel to the final of the Caf Confederation Cup despite losing three nil to Zamalek of Egypt. The Tunisians sail through after  five nil victory in the first leg. They will face Orlando Pirates in November for the finals.
