Chedjou celebrates, Njie sidelined, Kana Biyik spoils Ekotto's comeback

A round up of the performances of Cameroonian footballers in the diaspora

Full action resumed in some of the major European leagues over the weekend with some Cameroonians already making their mark. It was glory for some and despair for the others, firsts for some and a comeback for the others. We take a look at the performances of Cameroonians plying their trade out of the national triangle.

We start in Turkey where Aurelien Chedjou Fongang celebrated his first trophy of the season after Galatasaray edged out Bursaspor one nil to win the Turkish Super Cup. The defender had a solid performance at centre half to enable his side keep a clean sheet as Dany Nounkeu could only watch from the Bursaspor bench throughout the game.
Chedjou(m), Sneijder(L), Podolski(r) celebrate Supercup win
Over in France, Henri Bienvenu Ntsama was a second half substitute for Troyes in their goalless draw against Ajaccio, hitting just one shot on target. On the other side, the game came too early for Jacques Zoua who signed earlier in the week for Ajaccio who had Cameroonian goalkeeper Jules Goda, to thank. The young goalkeeper put up a man-of-the-match performance that earned him a place in the Ligue 1’s Team of the Week.

Another Man-of-the-Match performance came from Jean Armel Kana Biyik who marshalled Toulouse to a 2-1 victory over Saint Etienne 2-1.  Benoit Assou Ekotto was ever present at left back but could not prevent his side from the defeat. Not the return to French Football he was expecting after joining Saint Etienne this summer from Tottenham Hotspurs.

Striker, David Ngog had just two shots off target in the 75 minutes he played for Reims as they were 2-1 winners away at Bordeaux. 33-year old right back Gael Angoula was a bench warmer for Angers as they defeated Montpellier 2-0. Same fate for Marseille’s Georges Kevin Nkoudou, as the 20-year old midfielder could only watch from the bench as his side slipped to an opening day home defeat to Caen with head coach Marcelo Bielsa stepping down after the game. Meanwhile Nicolas Nkoulou is still out with a thigh injury.

Benjamin Moukandjo was given an hour to impress for Lorient against Lyon on Sunday. The tricky winger had just one shot on target as both sides fired blanks at the Stade Gerland. Henri Bedimo was ever present at left back for Lyon but Clinton Njie was missing from the matchday squad with a minor injury, though continuous reports have been linking him with a move to Tottenham Hotspurs.
Tough return tof French Football
Ligue 2

Guy Roland Ndy Assembe played 90 mins for Nancy as they edged out Laval 1-0 away. Eighteen-year old Jerome Onguene and Toko Ekambi lined up for Sochaux as they fell 1-0 to Metz. Twenty-eight-year old defender Frederic Bong sat out the whole game for Niort as they slumped to a 3-0 defeat to Dijon.  Twenty-nine-year old Striker Andre Dona Ndoh was a second half substitute for Niort.

Eugene Ekobo played 90 minutes for Clermont as they travelled away to impose a 2-2 draw on Evian TG. Striker Christian Bekamenga played 90 mins for Lens as they were held at home to a 1-1 draw by Red Star FC.

England

In the Premier League, Sebastien Bassong and Norwich did not have the best of returns to topflight football as they slumped to a 3-1 defeat at home against Crystal Palace. The 29-year old centre half was unfortunate not to have been awarded a penalty after he was clearly bundled down in the box by Connor Wickam but referee Simon Hooper (who was making his Premier League debut) gave a blind eye.

On the other hand, Allan Nyom who joined Watford in the summer had a positive start with the Seagulls as they travelled to Goodison Park to pull a 2-2 draw with Everton.

Gaetan Bong made his full debut for Brighton and Hove in the Sky Bet Championship as they edged out Nottingham Forest 1-0 on Friday night in the opening game of the season thanks to a goal from Congolese striker Kazenga Lualua.
Tough return for Bassong
In the MLS(Major League Soccer), Toni Tchani put on a match-winning performance notching two assists for Columbus crew as they beat Charles Eloundou’s Colorado Rapids 2-1. This performance from the holding midfielder earned him a place in the MLS Team of the week. Eloundou on his part hit five shots on target and provided 15 passes.

Ambroise Oyongo Bitolo played full 90 mins at left back as his side Montreal Impact suffered a one nil, defeat to DC United, their third in a row.
