It
was an unfruitful week for our strikers in the diaspora as most of them failed
to find the back of the net after their impressive displays last week.
We
begin this week in the French Ligue 1 where Jacques Zoua is still after his first goal as well as first victory
with GFC Ajaccio. The former Cotonsport
of Garoua striker had an uneventful 73 minutes on the pitch as they lost two
nil to Caen. Goalkeeper Jules Goda who returned after serving a three-match ban
was only fit enough for a place on the bench.
Benjamin Moukandjo lasted the 90 minutes for
Lorient as they fell 2-1 against Montpellier.
Midfielder
Zambo Anguissa equally had a poor
game for Marseille in his first league start for the club as they lost 1-2 at
home to Angers- He was withdrawn at half time. Nicolas Nkoulou on his part had almost an off day in office despite
lasting 90 minutes on the pitch. Criticised by the French media for his poor
display, the centre back seemed uninterested throughout the game and culpable
for at least one if not both goals conceded by Marseille.
Another
Cameroonian on the losing side in France last weekend was Jean Armel Kana Biyik who shook off a minor injury to return at the
heart of Toulouse’s defence. But the game was put to bed before the break as
Bastia scored three quick-fire goals before seeing out the game in the second
half. Kana Biyik had a brilliant effort saved before the break and that was
their best attempt in the half.
Jean Christophe Bahebeck came on as a second half
substitute for Saint Etienne in their 4-1 home loss to Nice. The striker even
missed a penalty that would have reduced the deficit for his team. His compatriot Benoit Assou Ekotto still remains sidelined with an ankle injury.
David Ngog scored his first goal of
the season for Reims as they edged Lille one nil. The striker scored at the 56 minute to make
amends for the penalty he earlier missed in the game.
In
the Ligue 2, Frederic Bong and Dona Ndoh
kept their starting berth for Niort as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Clermont
who also had Eugene Ekobo at left
back.
Alex Teikeu lined up for Sochaux in
their one nil defeat at Lens but there was no NdyAssembe in goal for Sochaux as he was completely left out of the
match day squad. Christian Bekamenga
lasted 72 minutes for Lens.
Georges Constant Mandjeck was handed his first
league start for Metz as they lost 1-2 against visiting Nimes with the defender
picking up a booking just before the half hour mark.Jerome Guihota was deemed surplus to requirements and could only
watch from the bench for Nimes.
England
Clinton Njie was happy man over the
weekend with Tottenham Hotspurs as they ran out 4-1 winners against Manchester
City to close the gap at the top of the Premier League. The Cameroonian had
only the last quarter of the game to play but assisted Erik Lamela for Tottenham's fourth goal.
Allan Nyom was found wanting for
Watford as he gave away penalty in their one nil defeat at home against Crystal
Palace.
Sebastian Bassong made his seventh start in
as many games for Norwich City as they were held to a 2-2 draw away at West
Ham. Alex Song is not yet match fit
since joining the Hammers on transfer deadline day.
In
the Championship, Gaetan Bong was a
stalwart at left back for Brighton and Hove as they were forced to a 2-2 draw
by Bolton Wanderers. The Seagulls still remain top of the Championship.
Germany
Mavin Matip scored his first goal of
the season for Ingolstadt as they forced Cologne to a 1-1 draw. The defender
made 13 successful tackles, the most in the game and picked up a booking just
past the hour mark.
His
brother Joel Matip made 14 clean
tackles for Schalke 04 as they were one nil winners away at Hamburg. Choupo Moting who was restored to the
starting lineup after being dropped last weekend had an indifferent game
registering just two shots on goal.
Romania
Steve Beleck fired blanks this weekend
for CFR Cluj as they were held to a goalless draw away at TarguMures.
In
Bulgaria, Petrus Boumal kept his
place for Lovech as they dropped their first points of the season with a 1-1
draw against Ludogorets. Lovech however remain top of the league.
In
Greece, Yaya Banana made his fifth
appearance of the season for Platanias as they lost 1-0 away at Panathinaikos
in the relegation battle of the weekend.Platanias remain bottom of the league
and are still in search of their first win of the season.
Spain,
Idriss Carlos Kameni was in fine form for
Malaga as he forced Real Madrid to a goalless draw at the Santiago Bernabeu on
Saturday. The experienced goalkeeper thwarted all attempts by Cristiano Ronaldo
and Co as he left the Spanish capital with a clean sheet. He was even selected in Europe's 11 of the weekend by leading Italian sports daily La Gazetta Dello Sport.
In
the Segunda Division, Achille Emana
was a second half substitute for GimnasticTarragone as they pulled a goalless
draw away at Real Valladolid.
Midfielder
Frank Omgba was stretchered off just
after 35 minutes for Real Oviedo as they held Elche to a 1-1 draw.
In
Portugal, Vincent Abubakar was given
just the last quarter for the game as FC Porto were held to a 2-2 draw against
Moreirense. The striker would certainly return to the starting lineup tonight
in their crucial Champions League home tie against Chelsea.
Belgium
Sebastian Siani bossed the midfield for
KV Ostende as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Mouscron
Peruwelz. KV Ostende remain top of the Jupiler Pro League.
Evariste Ngolok was benched for Lokeren
as they lost 0-1 at home to Club Brugges as Lewis Enoh was completely sidelined from the match day squad.
Division
2
Wala Zock and PatroEisden lost 3-1 away at
Coxyde to stay above the relegation zone.
21-year old defender Raoul Kenne played 90’ for AS Eupen as they defeated White Stars of
Bruxelles 3-1 coached by Jean Bico.
Eupen are fifth with 13 pts while Stars are 12 with 7 points.
Turkey
Achille
Webo was withdrawn in the first half with an injury
as Omanilispor were 3-1 winners of Stephane
Mbia’s Trabzonspor-their second
consecutive defeat. The Indomitable Lions captain was booked on the stroke of
half time.
Despite putting up a fine performance, Samuel Eto’o failed once again to find
the back of the net for Antlyasporas they were held to a 1-1 draw by Sivasspor.Jean II Makoun came on for the last ten
minutes of the game for Antalyaspor.
Aurelien
Chedjou returned from injury but was fit enough
only for the bench as Galatasaray defeated Gazintespor 2-1.
Leonard Kweuke scored a last minute penalty to salvage a point for a nine-man Rizespor against Kasimpasa. Charles Itandje kept his place in goal for Rizespor.
Dany Nounkeu and Bursaspor picked up their first win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Eskisehirspor on Monday night. The Cameroonian got a rare start at the heart of the Bursaspor defence as they kept their first clean sheet of the season.
In Romania, Fai Collins slotted kapt his place in defence for Dinamo Bucarest as they were 3-1 winners away at Concordia- their first win in four games. His compatriot Antonio Ghomsi who dropped to the bench played the final eight minutes of the game while Patrice Feussi was an unused substitute.
